Crescent and Bellway create desirable city homes

CRESCENT AND BELLWAY CREATE DESIRABLE CITY HOMES

Spiral staircases, designed and installed by Crescent of Cambridge, provided the finishing touch to the penthouse apartments of a new scheme for Bellway Homes in London Docklands.

The recently finished block of flats included spiral staircases in the penthouse duplexes to help create a sense of space and enhance the stunning waterfront outlook from the floor to ceiling window, which stretches across two floors. The staircases have open wooden treads, with black railings and handrails once again creating an atmosphere of open space and allowing the panoramic view to be seen from as much of the flat as possible.

Richard Butler, managing director of Crescent says, 'the apartments were built for owner occupation, as well as investment for renting. Therefore, features within the flat must add value that is attractive not just to the owner but also to those renting up-market London homes. A spiral staircase, which enhances the sense of space creating an open and airy apartment, satisfies perfectly the current desire for fashionable minimalist design.'

Crescent of Cambridge manufactures and installs high quality spiral, straight flight and helical staircases for a wide variety of needs. Since introducing the first modular stair in 1972, the company has grown dramatically and has been market leader for many years. Crescent's unique system design consists of a comprehensive range of basic components which can be rapidly customised, using the very latest data processing technology (powerful CAD systems and engineering-based software) to generate bespoke designs and cost-effective solutions to any given stair requirement.

Crescent stair is striking design element in private pool

CRESCENT STAIR IS STRIKING DESIGN ELEMENT
IN PRIVATE POOL

A Crescent helical stair becomes a dramatic design element in a recent project by Cheshire Robbins Design Group. The project - a large private residence - includes a private pool with enticing views out to open woodland.

Andrew Robbins of the Cheshire Robins Design Group says "We regard staircases as integral design elements, both as functional means of access, and as positive visual focal points, which enhance the experience and enjoyment of the circulation through the 3 - dimensional spatial qualities of the design."

The stair's box section stringers enable the stair to span from floor to floor without other support - enhancing the airy ambience of the poolside area. Folded, tray type treads have ash inlays to blend with the surrounding hardwood floor.

Crescent ensures rain doesn't spoil play at Wimbledon

CRESCENT ENSURES RAIN DOESN'T SPOIL PLAY AT WIMBLEDON.

The open construction of the award winning Millenium Building at Wimbledon' s All England Lawn tennis Club presented a design problem - Building Design Partnership did not want the minimalist exterior encumbered with rainwater downpipes.

Crescent of Cambridge, the leading manufacturer of spiral staircases solved the dilemma by designing a stair with a downpipe encased in its central column.

"Apart from minor problems negotiating narrow streets around Wimbledon with the lengthy continuous central column the job went very smoothly and the AELTC are delighted with the combination of elegance and practicality" says Crescent MD Richard Butler.
